Keeping Track Of Ovulation

One of the first things to determine when a woman is trying to get pregnant is exactly when she will ovulate. This can determine the easiest way for her to get pregnant. There is only a small window of opportunity for the couple during the woman’s cycle and being able to pinpoint the best day or days will greatly increase the chance to get pregnant fast. That being said, it will be a good idea to spend several months charting exactly how your cycle works to learn how to increase fertility. Most women have a 28 day cycle, but this can be shorter or longer.
When you decide to begin charting your ovulation cycle, you will need a few simple aids: a calendar, a thermometer (preferably digital), and an ovulation kit. This can obtained at a pharmacy or other store and no prescription is needed. This kit will alert you when the presence of the luteinizing hormone spikes that occur just before you ovulate. Although this method is quite reliable, it is best to combine it will charting on your calendar to increase your chances of conceiving as quickly as possible. Begin using the kit for testing 4 days before your day of ovulation and continue for 4 days afterwards. On the day that you get a positive reading from your kit, you should indulge in intercourse, and on the next day as well.
After keeping track of your menstrual cycle for a few months, to make sure it is regular, count backwards 14 days from the first day of the period. This will tell you when you ovulate, on the 14th day of your cycle. If you have a shorter menstrual cycle, say 26 days, you will ovulate on day 12. The same works if you have a longer cycle, subtract 14 days and you will find the day of ovulation.
Concurrent with the charting, you should also take your temperature every morning before you get out of bed. This will give you the lowest reading for the day and is called the basal body temperature. When you ovulate, your temperature will rise slightly, only 1 degree or less. This reading will be more important for the following months than the present, and will help to pinpoint when the best time for intercourse will occur to result in a pregnancy.
Another thing you should do to get pregnant fast is to keep an eye on the consistency of your cervical mucus. The cervical mucus is generally rather thick and viscous, but when you are about to ovulate, it will thin out and become clear and slippery. This is to make it easier for the sperm to reach the egg. When the cervical mucus changes, you will know this is another sign that it is time to make a baby.
